How children learn best

Why Play-Based Learning?

Children learn best in a fun, active, hands-on environment. Relevant learning experiences, interactive teaching, and active discovery are the most effective ways to foster a love of learning. Our teachers carefully prepare activities and select toys to develop your child and prepare him or her for a successful kindergarten experience. Our curriculum addresses age appropriate development in the following areas:
Language and Literacy
  • Letter recognition (upper & lower case)
  • Letter sounds
  • Story telling
  • Recognize words from their environment
  • Play activities with words (rhyming, finger plays, songs)
  • Encourage to read & write their name
  • Develop manual dexterity
  • Improve listening, comprehension & communication skills

Social Studies
  • Experience different holiday celebrations
  • Show and tell
  • Field trips
  • Explore personal likes, dislikes, etc.

Social Development
  • Improve communication skills with peers and adults
  • Develop problem-solving & conflict resolution skills
  • Manage transitions and follow routines
  • Learn to follow simple, clear, consistent directions and rules
  • Practice sharing, taking turns, cleaning up and cooperating

Gross Motor Development
  • Use large muscles
  • Participate in games and other forms of exercise
  • Enjoy outdoor climbing, games & non-structured play
Mathematics
  • Compare, classify and sort
  • Graph collected information
  • Recognize & create patterns and relationships
  • Use tools of measurement (length, height, weight)
  • Understand the calendar
  • Expand problem-solving skills
  • Develop an interest in numbers & counting
  • Count objects with one-to-one correspondence

Science
  • Develop a wonder and curiosity about their world

  • Observe, measure, compare & predict simple experiments

Creative Development
  • Use their own ideas to draw, paint, mold & build with a variety of materials

Fine Motor Development
  • Use small muscles
  • Use scissors, pencils, markers, eyedroppers, paintbrushes, stencils, puzzles, and woodworking tools
  • Practice tracing, writing, cutting & lacing
  • Dress and prepare for outside play (mastering zippers, buttons, boots & mittens)
